Yes I do believe that this essay is a arguement. what is being argued are a couple of statements that the towns people are questioning. What does it take to be a man? Who can say what it takes to be a man? why is there so much hatred against gay people? In my opinion the thesis statement should be “Torture is more easily imagined when masked in iconography but no better understood.”
Mrs. Wypijewski is trying to tell you a story about all three boys. She talks about thier lives. How they grew up, with or without parents. was there a parent on drugs? Were they raised in a good home, were they abused as a child. She is trying to give us some insight on what might have lead up to this incident. I think the author choiced to write this story to show that homosexual hatred is not just a big city problem.
Mrs. Wypijewski is a very good writer. She tells a story in a very interesting way that you feel that you are apart of that community. She keeps you interested by getting interviews from people and different groups in the town.
